Because I am so whooped, it is easier for me to do all the updates on GloriaAndPaul.com., than here. This site is due for a refresh, someday...

The Weekend Posted by on Monday, March 17, 2003 - 01:09 AM |
Hi ! This is gloria. Our weekend started off with Paul and I watching Scarface. My brother turned 21 this weekend, so a couple of us took him out to party on South Beach. We hit a club called Rumi and a bar called Finnegans. Both are on Lincoln Road. Once again, we went rollerblading and to the beach. Paul is getting a lot better on the rollerblades. He can now almost keep up with me.

Valentines Weekend Posted by on Wednesday, February 19, 2003 - 04:01 PM |
Wow, what a busy weekend Gloria and I had...
Friday night, it was dinner at Ruth's Chris Steakhouse in Coral Gables. Our reservations were in the early evening, so it wasn't packed, and the food was great. Saturday, we went to the Coconut Grove Arts Festival to get some culture. I saw a couple black and white photographs that I kinda liked, but not for the price. Sunday, it was off to the Miami Boat Show. We only looked at the Yachts, no real interest in the "small" boats. 15 million, and you too can have your own personal cruise ship! All in all, a very busy weekend, but lots of fun together.

car wash and rollerblading Posted by on Sunday, February 09, 2003 - 08:51 PM |
Gloria here, just finished cleaning my dirty Honda and Paul's truck... Anyways, time to go rollerblade, adios! edit: Paul - finally learned how to rollerblade today - got enough experience and confidence to do some turns and stops... It was sorta of like learning to ride a bike. Hopefully I won't fall as much anymore.

Gloria and my Trip to Las Vegas Posted by on Friday, January 31, 2003 - 09:31 PM |
Gloria and I took a little weekend trip out to Vegas last week as a birthday present to ourselves... We stayed at Treasure Island, and did a little gambling at each of the casinos on the strip. I survived the Stratosphere "Big Shot" (vertical ascent ride on top of the 1,149 foot tower), what a rush! We went to a Super Bowl party at the Flamingo and got to see the Tampa Bucs win (Gloria's dad asked us to place a bet)!

Crazy Work Trip - Week 2 Posted by on Wednesday, January 22, 2003 - 06:14 PM |
Made it through the second and final week of the work trip! This time it was not as cold, and finished early. Monday, flew out of Fort Lauderdale to Orlando. The flight was so quick that the stewardesses did not finish serving drinks, and had to run for their seats as the plane landed. Got a workout in and went to bed. Tuesday, arrived at the facility at 6 AM, and got to work. No heat in the warehouse (but that is nothing new). Did the training, these guys were the brightest of all sites. Finished up and went out to Bahama Breeze. Its a closely guarded secret that January 14 is my birthday. The company treated me to a couple beers and Jagermeisters. Wednesday was the last day in the Orlando warehouse, off to Tampa. Thursday was my last day on this wild trip. The Tampa warehouse was really small, so I finished up ahead of schedule and caught a plane back to Fort Lauderdale. The End.

Crazy Work Trip - Week 1 Posted by on Monday, January 13, 2003 - 05:44 PM |
So, I made it through the first week of this work trip.
Background
- I am training/mentoring Ryder/BellSouth people in the use of my work's new software, ActiveTrac.
So, my work partner and I flew out of Fort Lauderdale Last Sunday night. Except our flight was delayed (got to watch the ending of the San Fran game). One hour into the flight, the pilot notifies us that the reason was because of a missing part that had to flown from Atlanta.
So, we finally make it into Atlanta after midnight, and we are stuck at the gate for 20 minutes because the jetway is stuck. (never voluntarily flying Delta again).
We pick up the rental car, and head out to Macon (hour drive). We stop at a Steak and Shake, but they don't have any food, only steak! So after getting a steak patty and a bun, we make it finally to the hotel. Mine you, its freezing (literally) outside... something I am not used to.
So, we get about an hour sleep, and then we head off to the warehouse. Its cold, and dirty... I am not one to complain about dirt, and have no problems rolling up my sleeves, but this place was disgusting. Worse yet, there was no heat in the warehouse, the manager I guess was too cheap to buy kerosene. So, we finish up around 2 AM, and we head back to the hotel. At that point I get to recharge some sleep (practically up for 24 hours). We finish up Tuesday night at 2 AM, except this time, I stay in the office and make them come in to me (no need for me to get sick).
Wednesday, its off to Jacksonville, Fl. Nothing really spectacular, pretty much attempting to get some more sleep. But then, they try to change the training and implementation times all around. After a couple hours of phone conferences, we get them back to where they were.
Thursday, we arrive at the warehouse, and get setup. We discover the Delta's security people had opened our equipment case, and in closing it, had crushed one of the scanner screen's. About $1000 worth of damage. Thanks Delta and HomeLand InSecurity. Training was ok, the weather was a little warmer, and they actually had working heaters! The only problem was that the workers were not following proper procedures, and they did not like us being there. Too bad for them.
Friday, at this point we could tell that the dock workers disliked our presence, they must have thought that we would care about their bad practices, its their problem, not ours. I can understand their point of view, if the item gets there, their job is done. But unfortunately the managers there could not convey the importance of visibility of the material they transport.
So after all of that, I flew out Friday night, back to Fort Lauderdale, and to see my girlfriend - who I had not had the oppurtunity to spend time with for 2 weeks.

Server move to Fort Myers Posted by on Wednesday, January 01, 2003 - 09:38 PM |
It looks like everything is working after the server move this weekend. I can no longer host it in my apartment, because of the lack of a static IP address with my DSL. So, it made the trip to Fort Myers and is connected via Road Runner. I got one webcam up, and it is in my dad's office (my old room). At least, I can now watch my old Power Mac, gosh, I wish I had a new Mac.
