The Weekend

Hi ! This is gloria. Our weekend started off with Paul and I watching Scarface. My brother turned 21 this weekend, so a couple of us took him out to party on South Beach. We hit a club called Rumi and a bar called Finnegans. Both are on Lincoln Road. Once again, we went rollerblading and to the beach. Paul is getting a lot better on the rollerblades. He can now almost keep up with me.

Valentines Weekend

Wow, what a busy weekend Gloria and I had...
Friday night, it was dinner at Ruth's Chris Steakhouse in Coral Gables. Our reservations were in the early evening, so it wasn't packed, and the food was great. Saturday, we went to the Coconut Grove Arts Festival to get some culture. I saw a couple black and white photographs that I kinda liked, but not for the price. Sunday, it was off to the Miami Boat Show. We only looked at the Yachts, no real interest in the "small" boats. 15 million, and you too can have your own personal cruise ship! All in all, a very busy weekend, but lots of fun together.

Gloria here, just finished cleaning my dirty Honda and Paul's truck... Anyways, time to go rollerblade, adios! edit: Paul - finally learned how to rollerblade today - got enough experience and confidence to do some turns and stops... It was sorta of like learning to ride a bike. Hopefully I won't fall as much anymore.

Gloria and my Trip to Las Vegas

Gloria and I took a little weekend trip out to Vegas last week as a birthday present to ourselves... We stayed at Treasure Island, and did a little gambling at each of the casinos on the strip. I survived the Stratosphere "Big Shot" (vertical ascent ride on top of the 1,149 foot tower), what a rush! We went to a Super Bowl party at the Flamingo and got to see the Tampa Bucs win (Gloria's dad asked us to place a bet)!

Crazy Work Trip - Week 2

Made it through the second and final week of the work trip! This time it was not as cold, and finished early. Monday, flew out of Fort Lauderdale to Orlando. The flight was so quick that the stewardesses did not finish serving drinks, and had to run for their seats as the plane landed. Got a workout in and went to bed. Tuesday, arrived at the facility at 6 AM, and got to work. No heat in the warehouse (but that is nothing new). Did the training, these guys were the brightest of all sites. Finished up and went out to Bahama Breeze. Its a closely guarded secret that January 14 is my birthday. The company treated me to a couple beers and Jagermeisters. Wednesday was the last day in the Orlando warehouse, off to Tampa. Thursday was my last day on this wild trip. The Tampa warehouse was really small, so I finished up ahead of schedule and caught a plane back to Fort Lauderdale. The End.

Crazy Work Trip - Week 1

So, I made it through the first week of this work trip.
Background
- I am training/mentoring Ryder/BellSouth people in the use of my work's new software, ActiveTrac.
So, my work partner and I flew out of Fort Lauderdale Last Sunday night. Except our flight was delayed (got to watch the ending of the San Fran game). One hour into the flight, the pilot notifies us that the reason was because of a missing part that had to flown from Atlanta.
So, we finally make it into Atlanta after midnight, and we are stuck at the gate for 20 minutes because the jetway is stuck. (never voluntarily flying Delta again).
We pick up the rental car, and head out to Macon (hour drive). We stop at a Steak and Shake, but they don't have any food, only steak! So after getting a steak patty and a bun, we make it finally to the hotel. Mine you, its freezing (literally) outside... something I am not used to.
So, we get about an hour sleep, and then we head off to the warehouse. Its cold, and dirty... I am not one to complain about dirt, and have no problems rolling up my sleeves, but this place was disgusting. Worse yet, there was no heat in the warehouse, the manager I guess was too cheap to buy kerosene. So, we finish up around 2 AM, and we head back to the hotel. At that point I get to recharge some sleep (practically up for 24 hours). We finish up Tuesday night at 2 AM, except this time, I stay in the office and make them come in to me (no need for me to get sick).
Wednesday, its off to Jacksonville, Fl. Nothing really spectacular, pretty much attempting to get some more sleep. But then, they try to change the training and implementation times all around. After a couple hours of phone conferences, we get them back to where they were.
Thursday, we arrive at the warehouse, and get setup. We discover the Delta's security people had opened our equipment case, and in closing it, had crushed one of the scanner screen's. About $1000 worth of damage. Thanks Delta and HomeLand InSecurity. Training was ok, the weather was a little warmer, and they actually had working heaters! The only problem was that the workers were not following proper procedures, and they did not like us being there. Too bad for them.
Friday, at this point we could tell that the dock workers disliked our presence, they must have thought that we would care about their bad practices, its their problem, not ours. I can understand their point of view, if the item gets there, their job is done. But unfortunately the managers there could not convey the importance of visibility of the material they transport.
So after all of that, I flew out Friday night, back to Fort Lauderdale, and to see my girlfriend - who I had not had the oppurtunity to spend time with for 2 weeks.

Server move to Fort Myers

It looks like everything is working after the server move this weekend. I can no longer host it in my apartment, because of the lack of a static IP address with my DSL. So, it made the trip to Fort Myers and is connected via Road Runner. I got one webcam up, and it is in my dad's office (my old room). At least, I can now watch my old Power Mac, gosh, I wish I had a new Mac.

Note, Paul doesn't seem to have gained any items since his moving into this apartment, in fact he has probably has less stuff. Job seems easier than the last move.

but luckily, the rain stopped, and I was able to get my bike ride in on Sunday... Another personal best, which I attribute to the Foster's beer I had the night before. Other than that, nothing too exciting, thank goodness that football has started back up.

Return to Fort Misery

Spent last weekend down in Fort Myers - boy, what a weekend!
Happy Birthday to my middle brother, Dave! He just turned 21, but since he goes to FSU, I doubt his new freedoms are anything new ;)
Got my haircut - I wouldn't mention this normally, but,,,,, this was more like a scalping (another FSU reference...), I went from 7 week long hair, to a number 2 clipper, not exactly what I had in mind... For a guy, this should be trivial, but dam, I can't get a decent haircut in South Florida.
Got the Explorer vacuumed, washed, and waxed, thanks Dan! It really needed it.
My precious new phone didn't have service - friggin VoiceStream doesn't have any coverage in Lee County (Fort Myers) area - I had great coverage across Alligator Ally (I75), till just past Naples - go figure. I want some consolidation with the U.S. GSM cellular service providers (VoiceStream, AT&T, Cingular, etc), the individual networks are too small compared to CDMA (Sprint, Verizon).
Worked out at Gold's with Dave, he gave me a few pointers. With Dan's help, I got my distance mile down to almost my high school time... Time to start signing up for road races.
The parents gave me a framed poster from the Monterey Bay Aquarium of my favorite exhibit, Sea Nettles in a black-light tank.

Goliath Online!

My stupid computer named Goliath - slain by Memory Trolls, is once again alive, thanks to some un-godly expensive ram from CompUSA. At this point, I will never buy an AMD based computer EVER again. Enough with this computer stuff - As soon as I get soon food to stay in my stomach (Quarterdeck is off my fine dining list for a month) I am off to the beach - looking to be the best day yet, this Summer.... Update.... Set another personal best on the bike, time to get pedals and shoes for it... The beach was a little hazy, but plenty of sun to keep my tan up!

Once again, I have to use the "I have been too busy to update my site" excuse. As, of this second, I just got more stuff dumped on me at work, so I will have to make this quick. .... Got myself a membership at Bally Total Fitness, I have out-grown my apartment's gym. So, the next time you see me, I will be all pumped up! On the geek side of things (one must keep balance) I got a new security camera setup in my apartment - I use it to monitor the workers who have to paint my patio. I so have to get my own house soon. anywayz - back to work. Oh, I shaved that goatee off, might grow it back in a month or so.

Resistance is Futile

After watching Apple CEO Steve Jobs show off my new phone (T68i) at the latest Macworld, I might finally have to get a Mac. You got to give Apple credit, they are really trying (and succeeding) at creating the next generation computer experience. What so special? iSync (Bluetooth connectivity) and upgrades to Mac OS X v10.2 “Jaguar”. Since I won't be getting any AMD cpu based computers for a long time - a Macintosh is an obvious next choice. With my workstation dead for several weeks, its quite apparent that Windows no longer has any critical applications that require its existence. Why should I wait 6 months for next generation computing, when I could get a Mac?

Warcraft III and Goliath offline.

Wow what a game - How to describe it? Starcraft(engine) + Diablo(heroes) + Warcraft II(theme) = Warcraft III. Blizzzard, nicely done. On a sad note, I think the game fried my CPU! So I will have to wait until I get a replacement sometime next week to finish the single player. Luckily, my Dell laptop has muscles, and is able continue my addiction on Battle.NET. This is the second time a RTS has taken down my home workstation (Bridge Commander ate my ram 3 months ago). Therefore, I declare that I will not purchase any AMD cpu based computers for 1 year. Sorry AMD, but this shit doesn't happen with Intel equipment.

Happy 4th of July

Well, the fireworks have begun to die down... Coral Springs sure knows fireworks, there was a show at my apartment community, and 2 more less than a mile away. Most of the sky was filled with fire and smoke - and the sound of car alarms. As you can see, I decided to play around in Photoshop and make a new banner... This is from my Keys Trip last weekend to see my Uncles and my parents and Dan. I have a few more pictures to put up, hopefully tomorrow.
